The National Gemstones Of Different Countries

!±8± The National Gemstones Of Different Countries

You are thinking of a unique gift to buy a foreign friend of yours, but you don't know what to get them.

You could get them a gift from the tourist center of your hometown, which they can take to their home country, but that reeks of self promotion so it is not the best idea. Instead, why not get them a gemstone that represents their country.

The Opal is the gemstone of Australia and considered a good luck charm for the country. In fact, the country's women's national basketball team is nicknamed The Opals. The Opal is also the state gem of Nevada. While the Australians may see the Opal as lucky, for centuries the Russians saw it as bad luck and the representation of the evil eye.

Canada's national gemstone is the labradorite, which is usually seen in an array of colors. Not surprisingly, the stone is mined on Paul's Island, near the town of Nain in the province of Labrador.

Alexanderite is the gemstone of Russia, where it was discovered in the emerald mines near the Tokovaya River in the Ural Mountains in the 1800s. The gemstone is similar to emerald but described as harder than emerald. It is named in honour of Alexander II, who took his thrown the same day the gemstone was discovered in 1834.

The national gemstone of Ireland is Connemara Marble, which has been mined in the country for centuries along the west coast. The gemstone, is not surprisingly, green in colour, reflecting Ireland's love for all things green. Connemara originated over seven million years ago and is considered very rare.

Amber is the national gemstone of Spain. We all know what amber is, it is fossilized sap from millions of years ago that is often found in digs for dinosaurs. Amber has also been found with insects inside, imprisoned for millions of years in a yellowish prison.

The national gemstone of Iran is turquoise, which is a blue green gem of that is rarely a single colour. Obviously, since it is their national gemstone, turquoise is found in Iran and has been mined there for millions of years.

There are many different gemstones out there for every country in the world, and this just touches the surface, so if you are going to buy someone the gift of their national gemstone, do some research and find out the right one for them. No sense giving the wrong one and looking stupid.

Biffy Clyro - iNterview

Biffy Clyro are a phenomena. For nearly 15 years now the Scottish rock band has been churning out heavy, yet melodic, bass, drum and guitar-driven, triple-vocalist overloaded songs that are sometimes very complex, but always uplifting. All killers, no fillers. You can call them what you like: alternative rock, post-hardcore, experimental rock or maybe just the way power pop is defined in 2009. And just for the record: Simon Neil (vocals, guitar) and the brothers Ben (vocals, drums) and James Johnston (bass, vocals) also happen to be extremely sympathetic and funny, which made them some of the best iNterview guests we've ever had in front of our cameras. We had a blast! We were also lucky to get Uli from Berlin (Germany), Sabine from Hamburg (Germany) and Jack form Enfield (England) to ask some great questions that surprised the band. As could be expected, Biffy Clyro answered with all their entertaining charm and were also willing to do something very very special. Lets just say it had something to do with musical chairs! "After building a devoted cult following with their first three albums, the band expanded their following significantly with the release of their fourth, Puzzle in 2007. The album was released to widespread critical acclaim, and went gold in the UK, selling over 100000 units. Biffy Clyro's popularity was built upon further in 2008 and 2009 with the release of the singles Mountains and That Golden Rule, which both reached the top 10 of the UK singles ...

Talismans And Amulets

!±8± Talismans And Amulets

Generally known as good luck charms, talismans and amulets allow us to contact our inner-self and to draw beneficial energy towards us so that we can find answers to our hindrances in life and to achieve our desires. Basically they have the ability to trigger a positive way of thinking that will help in goal achievement.

I think that almost everyone at some point in their life has put their faith in an item or symbol that they think may bring them good fortune. For a very long time I put my trust in a tiny teddy bear that my grandmother gave me when I was a toddler. For many years I turned up for acting auditions and various kinds of examinations with this tiny teddy bear in my pocket. I really believed in this lucky bear because I was convinced it was lucky for me. Eventually this teddy bear became dishevelled dirty and fell apart. To show my respect for this bear, for all the years of luck it had bestowed on me I gave it a fitting funeral in my back garden complete with a head stone and flowers. I don't really know whether the bear did have any extraordinary talismanic asset but I do know that my own self-assurance in it calmed my nerves and, enhanced my examinations and acting auditions.

All through the ages, people have made use of symbols and gemstones as talismans, or amulets. They were considered to have the ability to keep one safe from evil spirits or to draw benevolent ones. If you think about it, symbols have always been present in our daily lives. They permit us to deal with a great quantity of facts quickly. Instant decisions can be made just by a quick glance at a road signs. We dream in symbols; attach brand names with an assortment of different meanings. Also, think about it, every time we read a book we convert the letters on the page into something we can understand.

Did you know that in all parts of the world people still continue to believe in the magical powers of talismans and amulets this is because they arouse a related self-assurance in people from different walks of life. The reason this is because most people sense they need a bit more additional assistance to deal with the stresses and anxieties of existing in this world.

But does the effectiveness of a talismans and amulets just depend on the total belief its possessor assigns to it? Some people believe that talismans exist in their own right; which, when I think about it, is probably something that my late lamented teddy bear did not have. Some believe that talismans and amulet are supposed to have a paranormal power which is their very own. Ok, they may work by motivating their possessor's mind to achieve their desire, it is true. But could they also succeed in bringing about an outcome, not just because of the self-assurance they arouse in a person, but because of their innate magical powers these talismans and amulets have?

The meaning of the word talisman comes from the Greek verb, teleo: which basically means to achieve, or generate. The talisman is an object marked with certain mystical signs, numbers or letters and is thought to bestow on its creator or possessor the ability to attract certain energies that will help in achieving a certain goal. Almost every religion through-out history has given its believers articles which are supposed to be able to help the possessor to achieve their goals. These goals can be anything varying from personal protection, success in love, healing, or achievement in a new business ventures.

A talisman is supposed to work like a self-recharging battery drawing a certain type of energy to its self. The precise characteristics of this energy all hinges on the person's motives for requiring the talisman. As soon as the talisman has been energised, it will then go on to draw a current of related energy from the cosmos. So, even though a talisman is utilising energy in advancing the reason for which it was created, it is, at the same time, also drawing into itself adequate new energy to maintain that purpose. So a talisman operates in a positive way, drawing to it the forces needed to produce whatever outcome its creator wishes.

What is the difference between an amulet and a talisman? (Amulet from the Latin word amuletum, which means an object providing safety) well, and amulet has the more negative task of defusing undeniable energies before they can produce an unwanted outcome. If you think about it they basically both accomplish the same outcome: an amulet which keeps off the energy of bad luck is, doing the same job as a talisman which goes out to acquire the energy of good luck. Amulets come in varied forms: any-thing from gemstones, pebbles, statuettes, pictures, clothing basically anything that you feel that is lucky for you even animals. Good Luck!
